Easter Week, aka Semana Santa is by far the most hectic travel week in Latin America. There is no doubt that Semana Santa 2018 in Honduras was no exception. The Restaurant name is Carmela, and it has a nice atmosphere. They serve great pizza and pasta. The waiting staff was friendly and good looking. They took good care of us. Prices were right and the wine was great. Two of us ordered pasta, the other a salad. We were all delighted with our food, which we enjoyed.
There is one city in particular that has a well deserved reputation as friendly and hospitable city. Of course, I am referring to “Honduras’ bride”, La Ceiba. This Caribbean city is a true melting pot. The truth is that La Ceiba offers the best of two worlds. It is friendly coastal city in Central America. It is also a Caribbean City that loves to dance to the beat of drums.
For years, San Pedro Sula earned the title of the “Murder Capital of the World”. At one point it had over 110 homicides per 100,000 persons. This year, the homicide rate has fallen to just over 51 homicides per 100,000 persons. This means that it has dropped from the number 3 most violent city in the World to number 26!
But you will ask, what do these young Hondurans have to do with this blog? Well as you know, most are heading north to seek better opportunities. If there was a possibility of getting ahead in Honduras, they would not be leaving. And you as a traveler can actually make a difference! First of all, by visiting Honduras. Tourism generates much employment, and provides a possibility of entrepreneurship for many locals.
